Public works crews will treat roads early Sunday morning

Crews across mid-Missouri are monitoring weather conditions overnight and plan to treat roads early Sunday morning.

Boone County Road and Bridge spokesperson Greg Edington said they’re gauging the weather and plan to have a full crew out around 3 a.m. Sunday. Edington said one concern is slick road conditions for people headed to church in the morning.

A 15-person plow crew will begin working on Columbia roads early Sunday. Columbia Public Works warns drivers to use caution in the possible snowy conditions.

Crews in Jefferson City are watching the forecast. Jefferson City Public Works spokesperson Britt Smith said roads that are already covered in salt won’t need pretreating, but crews will lay down salt in the early morning hours.

With another round of winter weather possible Sunday evening, Cole County Public Works spokesperson Larry Benz said crews will likely need to treat the roads again Sunday afternoon if the expected rain washes the salt away.
