Mid-Missouri Business Week: Columbia Parks and Rec asking for opinions on park expansion project

Columbia Parks and Recreation is taking a survey to get the community’s opinion on the Flat Branch Park expansion project.

The plans include a bridge to Providence Road and to use the park as a unique gathering spot and entrance to the City of Columbia.

Director of Parks and Recreation Michael Griggs said the park would be a great place to hold events, bringing economic benefit to the city and downtown Columbia.

“It will be that unique gathering spot. When you combine all of Flat Branch with the head of the MKT Trail, now people can have events,” Griggs said.

Columbia Parks and Recreation also scheduled a cross country meet at Gans Creek on Sept. 28, which could bring in anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million for the city. Griggs said 70 teams are already signed up
