Cold air settling back into Mid-Missouri

FRIDAY: Bundle up heading out the door this morning. Don’t be fooled by the return of sunshine, those mostly clear skies have allowed temperatures to drop overnight into the single digits north of I-70 this morning. We make it to the upper teens to low 20s this afternoon. Keeping a northwest wind up to 10 mph in mind, wind chills will be in the single digits to near 10 for much of the day.

TONIGHT: We’ll see clear skies again tonight as high pressure makes its way toward the Great Lakes. Temperatures will once again tumble overnight, bottoming out in the single digits north of I-70 to near 10 elsewhere in Mid-Missouri.

EXTENDED: We will see a brief break from the brutally cold and active weather Saturday, but it will remain below average. Afternoon highs starting out the weekend will make it into the mid 30s underneath mostly sunny skies. That break won’t last long, however. Our next disturbance that we’re tracking moves in late Saturday night into Sunday morning. This will bring a chance of seeing a wintry mix, with areas north of I-70 seeing the best chance at accumulating snow and more of a mix further south. The quick moving nature of this system looks to limit accumulations before temperatures warm Sunday afternoon into the mid to upper 30s. With this system just making it onshore out west, we will have a better understanding over the next day. Another wave moves through quickly on its heels Sunday night into Monday before a more organized low sweeps through the Midwest, keeping rain and snow in the forecast through Tuesday. This active weather keeps temperatures below average for the first half of next week, before getting closer to seasonal toward Thursday.
