Chilly weekend; wintry mix early Sunday

TONIGHT: We’ll see clear skies again tonight as high pressure makes its way toward the Great Lakes. Temperatures will once again tumble overnight, bottoming out in the single digits north of I-70 to near 10 elsewhere in Mid-Missouri.

SATURDAY: We will see a brief break from the brutally cold and active weather Saturday, but it will still be chilly with highs in the low to mid 30s and a southeast wind at 6-10 mph as clouds increase.

EXTENDED: Our next disturbance moves in late Saturday night into Sunday morning. As moisture moves in from the west, light freezing rain is possible south of I-70 as temperatures remain in the 20s while areas along and north of I-70 have a chance of light snow. Precipitation will increase after 4 AM Sunday and a glaze of ice is possible due to freezing rain along and south of I-70 while areas north could pick up minor snow accumulation. As of now, snow accumulation looks under 2 inches. Temperatures will rise above freezing Sunday afternoon, melting any wintry precipitation which accumulates in the morning. Highs will only reach the mid to upper 30s Sunday, still below average. Another wave moves through quickly on its heels Sunday night into Monday before a more organized low sweeps through the Midwest, keeping rain and snow in the forecast through Tuesday. It’s possible that some areas could see a wintry mix again early Monday morning before temperatures warm above freezing. This will be something to watch for the Monday morning commute. This active weather keeps temperatures below average for the first half of next week, before getting closer to seasonal toward Thursday.
