Hy-Vee bank robbery suspect sentenced

The man who tried to rob a bank inside of a Columbia Hy-Vee has been sentenced to prison.

A judge sentenced Jeffrey York to 10 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on one count of attempted robbery and 7 years on one count of making a terrorist threat.

In August, investigators said York went inside the Commerce Bank branch inside the West Broadway Hy-Vee and handed the teller a note saying he had a bomb in his backpack and a gun.

Police evacuated the store with about 100 people inside, according to a probable cause statement, and the bomb squad was sent to the scene.

Online court records show York pleaded guilty in December. He will be given credit for time served, according to the records.
