Bitterly cold air moves in; wind chills drop below zero

TONIGHT: Skies will clear quickly in the wake of the cold front as temperatures plummet into the single digits with lows anywhere from 0 near HWY 24 to 9 at the Lake of the Ozarks. Northwesterly winds at 13-18 mph will continue to be gusty overnight bringing wind chills down to -5 in the Ozarks to -15 north of I-70 by morning.

FRIDAY: Bitterly cold air will greet us as we head out in the morning accompanied by sunshine which will only warm us into the low 20s in the afternoon. Northwesterly winds near 10 mph will diminish late in the day, producing wind chills in the single digits to near 10 much of the afternoon.

EXTENDED: Friday night will still be bitter as we dip to near 10 degrees under clear skies. It looks like we’ll warm slightly this upcoming weekend, but Saturday still looks on the chilly side. Highs will rise into the mid 30s with mostly sunny skies. By Saturday night and Sunday we see another chance of rain/ snow mix. Areas north of I-70 see the best chance of snow, while areas south will see a mix. Light snow accumulation is possible north of I-70 Sunday morning before ending by early afternoon as temperatures rise into the mid to upper 30s. Another wave will bring a chance of a wintry mix Sunday night into Monday morning mainly south of I-70 with another round Monday night into Tuesday morning possible for all of Mid-Missouri.
