Columbia man facing drug charge

A Columbia man is facing a drug charge after police say they recovered several pounds of marijuana from his truck.

Columbia police officers were called to the 2800 block of Waynesboro Drive in Columbia on Jan. 10 after a reported home invasion. When officers arrived at the scene, the victim, 35-year-old Terell Fugate, was not there.

Investigators located Fugate’s truck less than a mile away on Smiley Lane. After looking into the vehicle, officers saaid they observed at least five marijuana plants in the backseat.

After returning to the car, Fugate apparently consented to allow officers to search his truck. Fugate then told police there were at least two pounds of marijuana inside the car, according to the probably cause statement.

Officers said they found six plants and six pounds of marijuana wrapped in plastic inside the truck. The marijuana plants inside the truck did not have any buds, and he was not charged for possessing the plants.

Police reports show Fugate has preivous convictions for burglary, forgery and distribution of marijuana.
