Columbia house fire determined accidental
A fire that significantly damged a home at 5405 Chamois Drive Sunday was determined to be accidental.
The fire began in an office area just south of the front door to the home, the assistant fire marshal said in a press release. Because there were many sources of ignition and significant damage, a cause could not be determined. However, the fire marshal said a space heater and shirt press were in the area and could have caused the fire.
The damage to the home was estimated at $131,250.
When officials arrived at the scene Sunday, the fire was fully involved. It took crews about one hour to control the fire.
Neighbors said no one was home at the time of the fire.
