Sex offender sentenced in case tied to Boone County

A federal judge sentenced an Iowa sex offender to 15 years in prison without parole followed by 15 years of probation Monday in a case involving Boone County investigators.

John J. Lundberg, 31, pleaded guilty in September to attempting to produce child pornography after he responded to an online advertisement targeting sexual predators posted by a Boone County Sheriff’s Department detective in September 2017, the U.S. attorney’s office said in a news release. The detective posed as a mother hoping to sell her 13-year-old daughter for sex, the release said.

Lundberg admitted to sending explicity photos to someone he thought was the “daughter” associated with the online ad, the release said. He had previously been convicted on Sept. 25, 2017 for enticement of a minor after responding to a Craigslist advertisement. The conviction took place just weeks after he communicated with the Boone County detective.
