Columbia police respond to spate of shots over weekend

Columbia police officers found evidence Sunday of gunfire in the 1400 block of West Worley Street, making it at least the fourth incident of shots being fired in the city over the weekend.

Police were sent to Worley Street at about 10:20 p.m. on a shots-heard call, Columbia Police Department spokesman Jeff Pitts said. Officers found a shell casing, but no other information was available Monday morning, Pitts said.

Officers were also sent to the 1400 block of Paris Road around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, where they found shell casings. Officers found shell casings and damage to a home in the 1500 block of Riva Ridge Court around 10 p.m. Sunday as well.

On Saturday, officers went to Risen Star Court and Derby Ridge Road where they found a home damaged by gunfire.

Police responded to four other shots heard calls over the weekend, but didn’t find any evidence of gunfire.

No injuries were reported or discovered in connection with any of these incidents and no suspect information has been released.
