Inmate charged with assaulting Callaway County Jail officers
A Callaway County jail inmate was charged this week with assaulting two corrections officers.
Shaun Rose is charged with second- and third-degree assault against correction officers Sgt. Lucas Stassel and Travis Burton. He kicked, head-butted and tried to strangle them, according to a Callaway County Sheriff’s Office probable cause statement.
The incident started when Rose was upset for being in lockdown for threatening damage to jail property, the sheriff’s office said. The statement says Rose kicked Stassel seven times in the ribs, forehead and shoulder and tried to wrap his legs around Stassel’s neck while Stassel and Burton were taking him to a segregation area.
Rose also tried to bite Burton on the ear twice, according to the statement.
Stassel was taken to the Fulton Medical Center for X-rays. Burton reported having a headache for about an hour after the assault. Both officers were treated for bruises.
Rose was already in the Callaway County Jail on charges that he had previously assaulted a Department of Corrections member. Rose has an extensive criminal history with charges including robbery, second- and third-degree assault, unlawful possession and use of a firearm and damage to jail property.
No lawyer was listed for Rose in online court records.
