One more cold day before a significant warm up through the weekend

THURSDAY: Thankfully, the bitter cold will be short-lived, with a slight thaw possible for Thursday afternoon as temperatures climb to near 30 north of I-70 but into the low to mid 30s farther south. Closer to I-44, some spots will reach 40 degrees with a southeast wind at 7-12 mph and mostly cloudy skies. There is a slight chance of a few snow showers to the north and east through the afternoon as another quick moving wave brings light snowfall just outside our area. Most areas will be dry today.

TONIGHT: With a warm front lifting tonight temperatures will remain steady through the night as overnight lows only drop into the upper 20s. With warmer, moist air advecting into mid-Missouri patchy drizzle is possible through the night. With temperatures hovering near the freezing mark, we could see some spotty slick spots develop. The best chance at picking up some freezing drizzle will be in our southeastern counties.

EXTENDED: The rest of the week we will see a warming trend, as the jet stream retreats back to the north. Behind that warm front lifting, tomorrow’s highs will rebound back in the low to mid 40s. The weekend looks nice with highs pushing 60 degrees, with a spot shower possible Saturday morning. Winds picking up out of the southeast on Sunday will bring highs close to 60 to end the weekend. With the warmer weather, Sunday could bring a few showers by late afternoon but most rain will move in Sunday night, moving out Monday morning. The mild weather continues Monday with highs in the 50s but another cold front will bring another shot of rain in for Tuesday and cold air which brings us back below freezing next Wednesday.
