Fans react negatively to MU sports penalties

Fans and athletes are reacting negatively to the NCAA’s decision to put sanctions on the Missouri Athletics Department on Thursday.

This includes a postseason ban for the 2019-20 football season and MU baseball and softball teams in 2019.

MU Football Head coach Barry Odom Tweeted his thoughts.

“The committee’s decision is completely unjust and unfair – to our team, to our staff, and to our alumni,” he said.

Odom said his thoughts echoed that of Chancellor Alexander Cartwright and MU Athletic Director Jim Sterk.

Former MU linebacker Kentrell Brothers also tweeted his reaction.

“Imma just say this.. She was my tutor and barely helped me,” he said. “So I’m confused. Literally had to switch tutors.”

Several MU students and staff spoke about the “unfair” penalties.

“You know our team’s been looking really good and its taken a while to get to where we are,” said MU student Cameron Leopold. “Now all that work seems like it’s for nothing.”

“Somebody sticks their hand in a cookie jar and another kid gets hit,” said MU professor Clark Peters. “You know, that’s not fair. There could be a need for consequences. The question is – are these the right ones?”
