Dangerously cold air in place within the next 24-48 hours

****DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS ARE SET TO IMACT MID-MISSOURI TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY, WITH WIND CHILL READINGS AS LOW AS -25. ALL COUNTIES ARE EITHER UNDER AN WIND CHILL ADVISORY OR A WIND CHILL WARNING****

TUESDAY: Little relief is expected for today, as a secondary cold front is set to track through the region. Following the bitterly cold start to the day with temperatures in the single digits, highs will only top out in the low ot mid 20s along and south of I-70, with areas north remaining in the teens. This comes as another cold front brings a strong surge of Arctic air. Ahead of the cold front isolated snow showers are possible, with little to no accumulation expected. The biggest impacts will be with the breezy winds and wind chills falling below zero into the evening hours for Tuesday.

TONIGHT: Tonight will be the coldest night we have seen so far this season with low temperatures falling to -7 for most of mid-Missouri. This is in the wake of the cold front that will continue to bring us breezy winds out of the northwest up to 17 mph with gusts even higher. Wind chills through the night will drop anywhere from -20 to -30. This will provide for dangerous conditions through the night and out the door early Wednesday morning.

EXTENDED: Wind chill readings this low will allow for frostbite to occur within 30 minutes. Little improvement is expected through the day Wednesday, as afternoon highs will only top out in the single digits. This will be a dangerous stretch of weather, especially if you are going to be outdoors. A large portion of Mid-Misouri will see 24+ hours of wind chill readings below zero, making any prolonged period outside dangerous. Thankfully, the bitter cold will be short-lived, albeit dangerous. The rest of the week will see a slow warming trend, a the jet stream retreats back to the north. We will begin to thaw by Friday with highs rebounding back in the low 40s. The weekend looks gorgeous with highs Saturday and Sunday in the low 50s. With the warmer weather, Sunday could bring a chance of scattered showers through the afteroon.
