Interim Columbia police chief selection could come next week
The city of Columbia could get its interim police chief next week.
City spokesman Steve Sapp told ABC 17 News that Interim City Manager John Glascock would make the decision Monday or Tuesday. Glascock interviewed four people for the spot.
The top position at the Columbia Police Department came open when former Chief Ken Burton resigned on Jan. 3. Glascock placed Burton on administrative leave a month before, but has still not clarified why specifically he had done so.
Glascock opened up the interim police chief job to the eleven CPD administrators ranked lieutenant or above shortly after Burton’s departure. He has previously said that the permanent city manager should hire the next police chief.
A city manager hire could take months. The Columbia City Council hired CPS HR Consulting to lead the search for a new city manager. Their search could take four months, according to documents the company submitted.
