Columbia firefighters rescue man from water

Paramedics were treating a man who had to be pulled from a body of water in a Columbia residential area Friday.

The man was in the water for about 10 minutes before firefighters were able to pull him out, a Columbia firefighter said. He was alert and being treated in an ambulance.

It wasn’t initially clear how the man ended up in the water off Lillian Drive in northeast Columbia. Firefighters said the ice on the pond was thin. Firefighters were sent to the area after neighbors heard the man calling out for help at about 5:30 p.m.

The ice was not thick enough to walk out onto, the firefighter said.
