Arctic air keeps coming through Feb 1

Arctic air will dominate our weather for the rest of January and the start of February as the jet stream continues to dive in from the north, sending surges of cold air in our direction. The next surge hits Thursday and sticks around through Saturday. After thawing our briefly Sunday and Monday, the coldest air yet this season hits for Jan 29-31st.

Wind chills Thursday night into Friday morning will be dangerously low, dropping as low as 15 below zero north of HWY 24 by early Friday morning as actual low temperatures dip to 0-6 degrees. Children will need to be dressed in layers and completely covered at the bus stop Friday morning to protect their skin from the bitterly cold air. Highs Friday will only reach into the mid 20s with a slight snow chance mainly in our northeastern counties.

The next surge of arctic air hits next Monday into Tuesday and looks like the coldest yet this season as daytime highs will stay in the teens next Tuesday and Wednesday as we end January. Nights will drop into the single digits.
