Holts Summit complex destroyed in morning fire
UPDATE 9:45 a.m.: Multiple public safety agencies responded to a complex fire in Holts Summit early Monday morning.
Lt. Scott Palsey, with the Holts Summit Fire Protection District, said the fire was a challenge to fight because of the high winds, cold temperatures and the number of people living in the complex.
No one was injured in the fire, officials said.
“There are approximately 30 units in this facility, so our primary concern was making sure everyone had safely evacuated and (was) accounted for,” Pasley said. “Fortunately, everyone did the correct thing and evacuated immediately.”
South Callaway, Millersburg, Central Callway, Fulton, New Bloomfield, Jefferson City, Osage and Cole County fire departments responded to the scene.
Holts Summit police, Callaway County deputies, Callaway EMS, The Red Cross and members of Pleasant Ridge Church also helped.
“Holts Summit Fire would like to thank all of the agencies that provided assistance,” Pasley said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
ABC 17 News reported back in Oct. 2014 that the same complex on Evergreen Drive caught fire after children played with matches or a lighter and their mattress went up in flames.
