Columbia Board of Education expected to approve sample ballot

The Columbia Board of Education is expected to approve the sample ballot this week for the April 2 general election.

Two positions on the board will become vacant when James Whitt and Jan Mees’ terms expire in April.

Mees and Whitt didn’t file for re-election.

Four candidates — Ardell “Della” Streaty-Willhoit, Brian C. Jones, Blake A. Willoughby and James “Jay” A. Atkins — have filed as candidates.

The deadline to file as a candidate passed on Tuesday.

Board members are expected to approve the notice of election and sample ballots at their meeting Thursday morning.

That meeting starts at 9:15 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Executive Center on I-70 Drive SW.
