Suspect in Darnell Gray case pleads not guilty

The woman accused of abusing 4-year-old Darnell Gray and causing his death in Jefferson City pleaded not guilty Tuesday in a Cole County courtroom.

Quatavia Givens, 26, of Jefferson City, was indicted for felony abuse or neglect of a child last year.

Gray was found dead in the 2100 block of Louis Circle in Jefferson City in late October.

Givens, who was Gray’s caregiver, initially told investigators the child had been abducted or had run away from her home in the 1100 block of Buena Vista Street, according to court documents.

Givens’ attorney also asked Tuesday for a change fo venue.

Givens’ next appearance is scheduled for Feb. 26.
