Side roads remain slippery in Boone County

Crew members are working to plow the busier roads like and Business Loop 70 and Providence throughout Boone County.

However, residential streets like those off of Ash Street in Columbia remain covered in snow. Cars parked along the those streets are blocked in by the snow that has been pushed off the road.

Residents can expect those streets to be cleared off as the snow stops falling in the area and crews clear priority roads.

Columbia Public Works posted on its Facebook page crew members will start to clear priority neighborhoods as the weather permits them to do so.

Roads that have been plowed are being covered with a light layer of snow, still making it difficult to see lines in the road.

Trees and tree limbs also pose a problem to drivers. The weight of the snow has caused tree branches and limbs to fall off. Even some larger trees have split or fallen over completely blocking parts of residential streets.

Several cars are stuck in ditches or on the side of the road, including on Rock Quarry Road which has been closed as a result of winter weather.

Driveways are also full of snow making it difficult for smaller vehicles, or vehicles without all-wheel drive to get out.

Crews from Columbia Public Works will continue to work 24/7 until the roads are clear.
