Tree falls on power line, causes fire

A tree fell on a power line Saturday evening in Columbia, causing a small fire. The downed line added to the nearly 9,000 customers without power in the city.

Fire crews responded to Crawford Street, off of Green Meadows at about 5:30 p.m. When they arrived, there was a small fire, but it was quickly put out.

There were still more than 9,000 customers without power in Columbia at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. City officials said some customers will not have power restored until Tuesday.
