Room at the Inn extends hours of operation during winter storm

Columbia’s winter shelter will stay open longer during the winter storm.

The Room at the Inn announced it would open at 7 p.m. on Friday night and stay open in continuous operation until at least Sunday at 7 a.m. Officials said they would evaluate the conditions Saturday night and decide if the hours of operation need to be extended.

“We knew the roads were going to be bad tomorrow and a lot of the warming centers were going to be closed tomorrow,” Director Jim Jantz said. “If there aren’t any warming shelters open, then they don’t have any place to go during the day.”

The shelter is currently hosted at Broadway Christian Church on West Broadway.
