Clearing skies through the day, with warmer weather to follow
WEDNESDAY: Overcast skies are struggling to clear out this afternoon, with temperatures holding steady in the upper 20s. Until the area begins to see clouds thin out, it will be hard for temperatures to climb much farther. Trends are pointing to skies gradually beginning to clear out as we head into the heart of the afternoon, which should allow highs to briefly climb above freezing. With winds out of the southwest up to 10 mph it will feel colder, as wind chill readings will remain in the low to mid 20s.
TONIGHT: Temperatures drop back into the 20s by morning under mostly clear skies. Westerly winds up to 8 mph create for wind chills in low teens through morning. Wear layers out the door early in the morning!
EXTENDED: A warming trend will slowly take hold for the end of the week, with temperatures topping out in the low 40s Thursday. Another southern storm system will pass well to our south Thursday night into Friday morning but most of the precipitation looks like it will stay in southern Missouri. After morning lows in the upper 20s, temperatures warm Friday near 50 degrees under plenty of sunshine. The weekend looks nice for early January with plenty of sunshine Saturday and highs in the mid to upper 50s.. We’ll stay mild Sunday but clouds will increase, leading to a chance of light rain late Sunday night into Monday.
