Cold start to 2019, warming up by weekend
TONIGHT: The overcast skies remain in place as well as the cold air. Lows will dip into the lower 20s by morning with a light northwest breeze under 5 mph.
WEDNESDAY: The day will start with overcast skies which will break up to partly sunny skies by afternoon. It will still be cold with high temperatures reaching the lower 30s as winds shift to the southwest up to 10 mph.
EXTENDED: A warming trend will slowly take hold for the end of the week, with temperatures topping out in the low 40s Thursday. Another southern storm system will pass well to our south Thursday night into Friday morning but most of the precipitation looks like it will stay in southern Missouri. There is a slight chance of a light wintry mix in areas closer to I-44 by Friday morning but if the precipitation reaches this far north, it won’t last long and would be light. After morning lows in the upper 20s, temperatures warm Friday into the mid 40s with mostly sunny skies north and partly cloudy south. The weekend looks nice for early January with plenty of sunshine Saturday and highs in the lower 50s. We’ll stay mild Sunday but clouds will increase, leading to a chance of light rain late Sunday night into Monday.
