Chris Farnam drops out of Columbia mayoral race

A Columbia man considering a run for mayor will instead support another candidate for the office.

Chris Farnam filed a statement with the Missouri Ethics Commission on Dec. 20.

Farnam told ABC 17 News he decided to drop out of the race and support former Rep. Chris Kelly.

“With Chris Kelly’s decision to run and his outstanding resume, I felt it best to not split the votes in any way,” Farnam said. “Let’s be honest, Chris is a well respected leader in our mid-Mo area. So, I decided to offer my full support to Chris in hope that we will have the right leadership in the mayor’s office in the years to come.”

Incumbent Brian Treece is also seeking re-election.

The last day for people to file to run in the mayoral race is Jan. 8. The election is April 2.

Farnam told ABC 17 News he would consider running for another local office in the future.

“I have wanted to hold a public office since I was 18, so state legislature is definitely in my sights for the future and city for later down the road,” Farnam said. “I will continue to stay active in my community in any way I can.”
