Marshall police investigate fatal shooting

UPDATE: Marshall police have released the name of the suspect in a Saturday evening homicide.

Police said James Scott Miller, 55, is being held on a $500,000 bond in the Saline County Jail on charges of second-degree murder.

According to authorities, they got a call about a disturbance on Viking Lane at about 6 p.m.

They found Joshua Charles Smith, 31, with gunshot wounds. He later died at a local hospital.

Police have not yet released further information regarding what led up to the shooting.

ORIGINAL STORY: Marshall police are investigating a homicide that happened Saturday night, according to ABC affiliate KMBC.

According to a news release KMBC obtained, officers were called to a disturbance on Viking Lane in Saline County around 6:14 p.m.

Arriving officers found a 31-year-old Marshall man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Fitzgibbon Hospital, where he later died.

Police arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting. A 55-year-old Marshall man is being held at the Marshall Police Department pending formal charges.
