Two teens hurt in single car crash in Jefferson City

Jefferson City police said two teenagers got minor injuries Saturday evening after a single-car crash on U.S. 50 West around 5:30 p.m.

Police said a 2012 Ford Focus was driving eastbound in the far left lane near Dix Road when it went off the left side and almost hit a concrete divider.

The driver tried to adjust and bring the car back to the main part of the road, but ended up crossing over to the right lane, over to the shoulder and then off the road into a grassy area.

The investigation then revealed that the driver of the Ford overcorrected to the left and brought the car across both eastbound lanes of U.S. 50, crashing into the concrete divider.

The driver, Makinzie L. Dye, 18 and the passenger, Audrey F. Jorgensen, 19, were both wearing seat belts when the front air bags deployed.

They reported having chest pain from the seat belts. Jorgensen was taken to a local hospital and Dye refused medical assistance on scene.

One lane of traffic was blocked for about 35 minutes while the Jefferson City Traffic Unit investigated.
