Tracking rain and cooler weather to end the year
TONIGHT: Clouds will gradually clear through the night, with temperatures expected to plummet by morning. Overnight lows will bottom out in the lower 20s, with light southeasterly winds keeping wind chills in the upper 10s.
SUNDAY: Despite the cold start to the morning, warming winds out of the southwest will bring the return to mild conditions. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid to upper 40s with passing clouds through the day. Winds will be out of the southwest up to 16 mph aiding in moisture transport, that will lead to light rain building in overnight into Monday.
EXTENDED: Light to moderate rain tracks into Mid-Missouri making for a wet New Years Eve. While no thunderstorms are expected, a brief bout of heavy rain is possible across southeastern portions of Mid-Missouri. It will be cloudy, cool, and rainy through most of New Years Eve, with highs struggling to climb out of the lower 40s. Thankfully the rain will clear out by evening in time for any New Years Eve festivities, but the clouds will remain. Rainfall totals will be higher off to the southeast, where pockets of 1-1.5″ are possible with lower amounts north. We’ll be starting off the new year on a frigid note with temperatures only making it into the mid 20s Tuesday. Wind chills both Tuesday and Wednesday morning look to be in the single digits with a cold northwest breeze. Temperatures gradually warm throughout the week, getting back to average by Thursday.
