‘Narcotics Control Act’ among hundreds of pre-filed bills in Missouri

More than 600 pieces of legislation have been pre-filed in the Missouri House and Senate since December 1.

Among them is a measure that has been filed and debated many times before in the legislature, but has always failed to become truly agreed and finally passed.

The ‘Narcotics Control Act‘ is aimed at curbing the opioid crisis in Missouri, creating a state-wide prescription drug monitoring program under the Department of Health and Senior Services.

At least seven different iterations of this measure have been proposed over the last two years.

The proposal has garnered criticism from Missourians concerned about privacy of medical records.

Supporters have said that the creation of a state-wide prescription drug monitoring system would allow the state to more closely track dangerous prescription drugs and prevent a practice known as ‘doctor shopping.’
