Columbia man accused in Christmas stabbing

A Columbia man was in the Boone County Jail on Wednesday after he reportedly stabbed a family member on Christmas night.

Boone County Sheriff’s Department Det. Tom O’Sullivan said Jeremy L. Bass, 39, was arrested after deputies were called to a home on Santa Anna Drive east of Columbia at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. O’Sullivan said the person Bass stabbed was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

A probable cause statement says the injured man told investigators that Bass stabbed him three times in the back as he tried to hold Bass back from getting in a fight with four men who approached them demanding drugs.

Prosecutors charged Bass with second-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action. Bond had not been set Wednesday morning and no attorney was listed for Bass in online court records.
