Mid-Missouri Business Week: Unemployment remains steady as stock market takes hits
Friday finished out the worst week for the stock market since the recession in 2008. Meanwhile, the latest jobs report shows the unemployment rate remaining steady.
Dr. Joseph Haslag, an economics professor at the University of Missouri, said the volatility in the stock market is closely related to international events and the national economy, including tariffs.
The drops in the stock market often hit savings programs like 401-Ks for individuals.
Haslag also said he expects major policy changes to be virtually nonexistent due to the partisan nature of Congress.
