Woman indicted in connection with Darnell Gray death

A woman accused of killing a 4-year-old Jefferson City boy was indicted by a Cole County jury on Tuesday.

Quatavia L. Givens, 26, of Jefferson City, was indicted for felony abuse or neglect of a child. Givens had already been charged in Cole County court with child abuse resulting in death.

Givens was a caregiver of Darnell Gray, who was found dead in the 2100 block of Louis Circle in Jefferson City at the end of October. Givens initially told investigators that Darnell had been abducted or had run away from her home in the 1100 block of Buena Vista Street, police wrote in a probable cause statement filed in her case.

But an autopsy found evidence of multiple blunt force trauma injuries and sharp force trauma injuries inflicted before Darnell died, the statement said. They later found his body in the area Givens had told them it would be, the statement said.

Givens is scheduled to be arraigned in January.
