Vandiver and Parker roundabout opens

The new roundabout at Vandiver Drive and Parker Street opened Wednesday evening after the construction company finished construction of the roundabout.

Although the roundabout is now open, the contractor will still work through the end of the year to finish the sidewalk and street lighting. There will be some lane restrictions, when necessary, until the project is complete, the city said in a press release.

“Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and detours whenever possible due to the likelihood of minor traffic delays during some portions of construction,” the release said.

The roundabout was approved by the Columbia City Council in July 2017, and construction began in August 2018. The project cost $900,000 and was funded by the 2018 County Road Tax Rebate and the 2015 Capital Improvement Sales Tax.
