14 people graduate from Boone County drug court program

Fourteen people graduated from the 13th Circuit’s drug court program in Boone County on Tuesday afternoon.

A ceremony was held at the Boone County Courthouse. It also marked the 20th anniversary of the drug court program.

Since the program started, more than 1,000 people have graduated from it.

Treatment courts are treatment-based alternatives to prisons, detention centers, jails and standard probation models.

Court administrators said participation in a treatment court may be voluntary or ordered as a condition of probation.

The length of participation in a treatment court program is determined by a participant’s progress, and is typically a minimum of 14 months and no longer than two years, according to a news release.
