Truck takes out power lines in downtown Columbia

Both lanes of College Avenue were closed down at Paquin Street on Monday morning.

According to fire officials at the scene, witnesses said a truck drove by and caught the power lines. The truck kept driving, dragging the power lines, and drove out of sight, witnesses said.

Officials said the lines that were taken down affected Mediacom customers, and their service was scheduled to be returned Monday afternoon.

According to the Columbia Water and Light power outage map, there are no power outages in that area.

As of 1:45 p.m. Monday, College Avenue was still blocked off.
