Sedalia receives $10 million grant for rail spur

The City of Sedalia will receive a $10 million grant to help create a rail spur in Sedalia Rail Industrial Park.

It’s part of the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development Transportation Grant program through the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant is also funding three other projects in Missouri, which totals $65.4 million in funding for the state, the department said in a press release.

The Sedalia project will “make energy delivery more efficient, reduce the number of times materials are handled and reduce delivery time, thereby creating business cost savings and economic competitiveness benefits,” the release said.

Multiple criteria items were used in evaluating applications for the grant, including safety, economic competitiveness, quality of life, environmental protection and state of good repair.

“The Department prioritized rural projects that aligned with the criteria and addressed rural infrastructure needs,” the release said.
