Teen dead after crash in west Columbia

UPDATE: Columbia police have released the name of the teen who died in a crash in Columbia Saturday morning.

Investigators said Bryce A. Hill, 17, was driving on I-70 Drive Southwest when he lost control of the car, it overturned and left the road. Hill hit a tree and was ejected from the vehicle.

Police don’t know what contributing factors caused the crash at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Hill was a senior at Christian Fellowship School in Columbia and was dual-enrolled at the “Columbia Career Center where he was particularly proficient at welding,” CFS Principal Scott Williams told ABC 17 News Saturday.

CFS Assistant Principal Brad Clemons said Hill was accepted to State Technical College of Missouri where he planned to pursue a career in welding.

“Bryce was a doer, a talented welder and fearless mountain climber. He loved the outdoors, mountain biking and working out,” Clemons said in a statement. “He’ll be remembered as a man of action and a loyal and passionate friend. Bryce will be greatly missed and forever remembered. He was a good man!”

“We’re a small school and so a loss like this is felt, not just among his immediate peers, but really across the grades because our students know each other so well,” Williams said.

Bryce’s sibling is in middle school and his mother is a fourth grade teacher at CFS.

“Our faculty feels deeply about this as well,” Williams said.

The CFS community held a gathering at the church and school Saturday afternoon, “where we invited any members of our school family to just come and be together to pray and love each other and cry together,” Williams said. “We will stand with each other in the hope that God gives us for our future.”
