Governor’s office contacts Hulshof about treasurer appointment
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson’s office has been in contact with a Columbia radio host to gauge her interest in being the next state treasurer.
Renee Hulshof, who co-hosts “The Morning Meeting” on KFRU and is married to former congressman Kenny Hulshof, said Parson’s aides contacted her twice before Thanksgiving to see whether she was interested in the seat. She said she has had no further contact with Parson’s office since those calls.
The office will become vacant in January when State Treasurer Eric Schmitt becomes the state’s new attorney general. Current Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley is vacating the office to become a U.S. senator after defeating incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill in the November election.
Hulshof’s name is just the latest to be mentioned in the speculation about who Parson will select to be state treasurer. The Associated Press reported this week that state Rep. Holly Rehder, R-Sikeston, has told Parson’s office she is interested in the job.
The treasurer’s office will be the third executive branch appointment made by Parson since he became governor after Eric Greitens’ resignation in May. In addition to Schmitt’s appointment, he also appointed former state Sen. Mike Kehoe to lieutenant governor.
