Winter returns to Mid-Missouri
SUNDAY: It’s going to be a cold day this afternoon. This broad upper level system is slowly tracking toward the Great Lakes region, which will move more winter-like temperatures into the area. We’ll see spotty showers with some locations mixing in some snowflakes, but anything that does fall will be light in nature. This system is also responsible for the breezy conditions we will see throughout the afternoon, with gusts reaching 30 mph at times today. Temperatures will struggle to get much above 40 this afternoon, so bundle up if you are heading outside Sunday.
TONIGHT: Heading into the overnight hours, we will continue the cooling trend as temperatures dip to near 30. With these temperatures reaching closer toward freezing, we’ll see more snowflakes than raindrops as lingering precipitation sticks around. But with a limited amount of moisture, accumulations and impacts don’t look to be an issue. Winds start to relax overnight, turning out of a more northwesterly direction.
EXTENDED: This system finally exits the area Monday afternoon, leaving us in the cold for the foreseeable future. Temperatures will only top out in the middle 30s Monday and Tuesday, with clouds holding on. Temperatures being to rebound on Wednesday with the return of sunshine to Mid-Missouri, warming to the upper 30s to near 40. Another cold front swings through the region Thursday, bringing the return of rain and snow to the forecast. Accumulations look light with this system as of now, but will be monitored throughout the week. Another system looks to impact the area next weekend as well, keeping us in the cold temperatures.
