Private funding secured for bicentennial bridge in Jefferson City

Private funding has been secured to start building the Bicentennial Bridge in Jefferson City, according to officials.

The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce announced the funds today in a news release.

According to the release, the bridge will link the Missouri State Capitol Complex to the riverfront at Adrian’s Island. The bridge will allow pedestrians and bicyclists access to the Missouri River and will span 830 feet over rail lines.

The release said fundraising efforts will continue even though private funds have been raised for construction. According to officials, public funds originally designated for the project will now be set aside for future maintenance needs.
