Trial begins for man charged with plotting to kill grandparents
A jury trial will begin Wednesday for a man charged with conspiracy to commit murder and domestic assault in an incident involving his grandparents.
Brian Kelley is also charged in Boone County with domestic assault after court documents allege a fight ensued with his grandparents. Jury selection began Wednesday morning and witnesses began to take the stand that afternoon. The trial is scheduled to last two to three days.
According to the court documents, Kelley was sprayed with the “Ultra-Kill Wasp and Hornet Killer” during a fight in which he allegedly assaulted his grandparents.
The victims told deputies in December they believed the attack was premeditated because there was a conversation on social media detailing how Kelley was going to kill the two. Messages between Brian Kelley and Jared Bears were found describing how Kelley was going to murder his own grandparents and how the men were going to hide their bodies. Bears was also charged with conspiracy to commit murder and allegedly removed a GPS monitoring device earlier this month. According to court documents, Bears might have his bond revoked after the prosecutor’s office was notified that Bears tampered with the equipment, and ESA Monitoring found the equipment abandoned. Bears was ordered to wear the GPS tracking device and to stay at home. His whereabouts are unknown.
