Jefferson City man in custody on new charges
A Jefferson City man was taken into custody on new, federal charges Wednesday morning for a September 2017 shooting.
Officers were dispatched to Lola Drive after a resident called saying they heard arguments and gunshots outside of their home.
When officers arrived, they saw a car driving away from the residence and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. Traivon Jefferson was in the vehicle along with two others, and during an interview, he denied any shots were fired.
However, officers saw the gun barrel was warm, and upon further investigation found a bullet and gun residue on Jefferson. He also had prescription drugs on him at the time, which were reported stolen the day before.
Jefferson was acquitted of second-degree murder earlier this month for a different case in which he was accused of being involved in the death of Terrance Davis, who was killed in October of 2016. Jefferson was set to be arraigned on new charges of unlawful use of a weapon in that case on Wednesday morning, but his arrest on the federal charged caused the arraignment to be moved to next month.
Jefferson is being held in the Cole County Jail.
