Woman charged after fatal Camden County shooting

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a woman was arrested and charged in connection to a homicide investigation after 34-year-old Derek Ray Harrelson was found dead Monday morning.

According to court documents, Christine Jolene Zahn, 47, of Camdenton, gave law enforcement officers conflicting statements.

When police first arrived on scene, they found Harrelson already dead after he had suffered a gunshot wound. Zahn told police she was at Glory Hole Bar that night and began getting ready for bed. She first told police she noticed a man running toward her in an aggressive manner and shot him with a rifle “because she only had one bullet,” the court documents said.

However, upon further interviewing, Zahn changed her story and told police that when she got home, she recognized a voice in the other room as her ex-boyfriend. She told police she and the man began arguing, and he accused her of cheating. She said she shot him because she was scared, the court documents said.

Zahn also allegedly had dialed 911 on her phone but did not call emergency responders because she was not a “cop caller,” the court documents said.

Zahn is being held at the Camden County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Zahn’s bond is set at $500,000.

“The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin,” said a press statement. “There are no further details at this time, pending investigation.”

TV station KSPR later reported Christine Zahn, 47, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Sheriff’s deputies say she shot and killed a 33-year-old man with whom she was in an on-and-off relationship.
