Education commissioner to get job back
The state’s top education official, who was fired last year, is getting her job back.
The State Board of Education said in a news release Tuesday that former education commissioner Margie Vandeven will return to the job Jan. 2.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch had reported that Vandeven was one of four top finalists for the job.
The State Board of Education interviewed finalists on Monday.
Board President Charlie Shields told the newspaper Monday before the announcement that board members made a unanimous decision to hire one of the candidates.
Vandeven was fired last year after former Gov. Eric Greitens stacked the State Board of Education with his appointees, who forced her out. Since Greitens’ June resignation, new Gov. Mike Parson appointed new board nominees who relaunched a search to fill the position.
Roger Dorson is interim commissioner.
