Low-flying plane to survey parts of Missouri
The U.S. Geological Survey is telling some Missouri residents, including part of mid-Missouri, not to be alarmed when they see a low-flying plane overhead later this month.
The agency said in a news release that a specialized plane will fly below 500 feet across southeast Missouri, including parts of Gasconade and Phelps counties, through March.
Researchers plan to use the data they gather to better understand the New Madrid Seismic Zone, including mining districts around the St. Francois Mountains and major structures with “potential seismic implications,” the agency said in the release.
