No one hurt when school bus slides off road near Sturgeon

No one was hurt when a school bus slid off the road and hit a tree near Friday afternoon Sturgeon, Boone County Fire Protection District Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp said.

The crash was called in at 3:44 p.m. at West Harper Road and Ponderosa Road west of Sturgeon near Highway 63. Other details about the crash were not immediately available, including which school’s students the bus was transporting.

All the students involved were safe and with their parents, Sturgeon School District Superintendent Geoffrey Neill wrote in an email.

In a follow-up news release Neill said the students were put on another bus and taken back to Sturgeon Middle School to be checked out by Boone County and Sturgeon first responders. Students were then released to their parents.

The students and driver were not harmed, Neill said.
