Columbia bank robbery nets 10-year sentence
A Columbia man was sentenced to prison for a Columbia bank robbery and high-speed chase that happened while he had an infant in the getaway car.
Larome D. Humphrey, 28, was sentenced Thursday in federal court to 10 years in prison without parole. Humphrey pleaded guilty in July to one count of armed bank robbery and one count of brandishing a gun in a violence crime.
Humphrey and two other men stole $2,588 from Callaway Bank on Bull Run Drive in Columbia at gunpoint in April 2017, according to court documents. Witnesses saw Humphrey and another man get into the getaway car and the Missouri State Highway Patrol found the car on Interstate 70 near Kingdom City, the office of the U.S. attorney said in a news release. A chase with speeds higher than 100 mph ensued. The pursuit ended when highway patrol troopers deflated the car’s tires and it crashed into a fence.
Three men ran from the vehicle but were caught and arrested and troopers found a 1-year-old child in the car’s back seat, the release said. The child was the son of Humphrey’s girlfriend, the release said.
Authorities also found “a large sum of cash” in Humphrey’s underwear after his arrest, the release said. He has an extensive criminal history including assault and drug sales.
