Winter Weather Advisory: 1-2 inches of snow possible into the afternoon
***WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR BENTON, BOONE, CALLAWAY, CAMDEN, COLE, COOPER, GASCONADE, HOWARD, MARIES, MILLER, MONITEAU, MONTGOMERY, MORGAN, OSAGE, PETTIS, PHELPS, PULASKI, AND SALINE COUNTIES UNTIL 9 PM.***
TODAY: Outside of a few sprinkles this morning, it is a quiet and cold start to the day. Temperatures are holding steady in the upper 30s and will slowly fall through the day, as colder conditions track in. Moisture streaming in from the southwest will bring a chance for snow today, starting as early as 6 AM in extreme western parts of Mid-Missouri before tracking northeast through the day. While light at first, snow will become more moderate through the middle of the morning into the early afternoon, as a better chance of moisture tracks through. A short window exists for the snow, with any snow expected to taper off by 3 PM, as the best lift exits the region. Snowfall accumulations will amount to 1-2 inches along and south of I-70, with areas north seeing anywhere from a dusting to just under half an inch. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s by the afternoon hours, with winds chills remaining in the upper teens and lower 20s.
TONIGHT: Clouds will decrease through the night, with a bitterly cold night expected. Under clear skies and any snow pack we see, temperatures will quickly fall to near 15 degrees. With winds out of the north up to 12 mph, we’ll easily see wind chills in the single digits for Tuesday morning. You’ll want to make sure you bundle up if you are going to be outside.
EXTENDED: As high pressure slowly shifts off to the east we’ll see a gradual warming trend. It will be another cold Tuesday and Tuesday night though, with temperatures once more falling into the teens. However, by Wednesday temperatures will rebound back into the upper 30s and lower 40s. While most of this week is dry, we are watching a wave of moisture that could bring some cold rain to southeastern parts of Mid-Missouri as we head into Thursday. For now it’s a very minor chance of seeing anything, but it is being watched. Friday looks to be the nicest day of the week, as we could squeeze out some 50s across the region, before another shot of cold air knocks us back into the 30s by Sunday.
