MoDOT set to start safety project on Route 54

A project aimed at improving safety on Route 54 in Camden County is scheduled to begin Monday.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said the improvements are designed to help prevent crossover crashes and increase the safety of several intersections.

MoDOT said drivers can expect lane closures on both eastbound and westbound Route 54 between Osage Beach and Camdenton. Officials said at least one lane will be open in both directions at all times.

According to a news release, the improvements include media guard cables, intersection improvements at Spring Valley Road and Route 54, deceleration lanes at Key Largo Road, Runabout Drive and Cape Woods Drive, a westbound acceleration lane at Key Largo Road, an eastbound acceleration lane at Route A and three J-turns.

The three J-turns are planned to be installed on Route 54 east of Key Largo Road, east of Camden County Route A and west of Route A.

MoDOT said the project is scheduled for completion in August.
